Sustaining Yemen’s Heritage through Physical Interventions in Shibam and Investing in Human Capital
Yemen
In Yemen, many heritage experts have left the country or changed careers due to the ongoing conflict. To remedy this loss of capacity, the project trained Yemeni heritage experts and worked with local communities so they can protect heritage sites from looting and acts of vandalism. A curriculum called “Cultural Heritage for Generations in Yemen” was developed and tested with 12 Yemeni teachers who implemented the program for 250 students in 10 public schools in Yemen. The project also provided expanded training for 12 Yemeni heritage professionals to improve their knowledge of the preservation and management of cultural sites.
