Protecting the Ziggurat of Borsippa
Iraq / Babylon
The Ziggurat of Borsippa is part of the remains of an antique Mesopotamian temple. It is especially prized by the local community and is renowned as an important cultural heritage site worldwide.
Located in Borsippa, a Sumerian-Akkadian site in the province of Babylon, the ziggurat is at risk following years of conflict, poor on-site visitor management, and the effects of climate change, which have accelerated the site's erosion and instability. The primary goal of this emergency project is to carry out urgent stabilization work to prevent the tower from collapsing.
