Khan Marjan: A Cultural Icon of Baghdad
Baghdad, Iraq
The Khan Marjan, an urban caravanserai built in 1358, is one of the oldest of around 20 surviving khans in Iraq. Due to water damage, rising damp and lack of maintenance since the 1990s, conservation of the site is urgent. The project aims to restore the site, create a center and library for young archaeologists and heritage professionals, as well as provide on-the-job training in building conservation and engineering.
