Foundations for the Implementation of a National Cultural Heritage Inventory

The rich cultural heritage of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is threatened by destruction, looting, and trafficking, exacerbated by ethnic, political, and socio-economic tensions. To help protect this heritage, twenty-nine heritage professionals received training on methodologies and tools for preparing general inventories of heritage sites in a workshop led by ICOMOS and local trainers. The goal of the second phase of the project is to draft a strategic plan to create inventories for endangered cultural heritage and provide further training so local cultural heritage workers to allow for greater autonomy and transfer knowledge to their staff.
