First Conservation Phase in the Chiribiquete World Heritage Site buffer zone, Serranía de la Lindosa
Guaviare, Colombia
The Chiribiquete World Heritage site, including its buffer zone, is one of the earliest testimonies of prehistoric rock art in the Americas. Inaccessible for decades due to the FARC conflict, the Serrania de la Lindosa buffer zone was declared a protected archaeological area in 2018. Two prehistoric rock art panels – “Panel de las Dantas” in the Cerro Azul and one of the rock art panels of El Raudal -- will undergo documentation, research, and conservation.
