Emergency stabilization of the old Mosque of Alha, Socotra
Socotra, Yemen
The first known mention of the ‘Alha Mosque dates to 1830. This Mosque is one of the rare standing monuments in Socotra, an island best known for its natural heritage, and it is a World Heritage Site. The site had been heavily damaged by cyclones and heavy storms. An emergency project supported by ALIPH and implemented by World Monuments Fund stabilized the Mosque by documenting and assessing the damage and then undertaking urgent conservation measures so that a full rehabilitation project can be launched.
