Emergency Digitization and Inventory of the Collection of the National Museum of Aden
Aden, Yemen
The National Museum of Aden housed an important collection of objects, including prehistoric stone tools, ceramic vessels, stelae, inscriptions, coins, and gems that date from the Aksumite, late Antiquity, and Islamic periods. Many of these objects were damaged or looted during the recent conflict.
In response, the Digital Library of the Middle Easter partnered with the Egypt Heritage Rescue Foundation in close cooperation with the General Organization of Antiquities and Museums (GOAM) to urgently secure these objects. These emergency measures included documenting and digitizing the remaining collection and undertaking a rapid assessment of storage conditions.
