Recovery of the National Museum and Directorate General of Antiquities Headquarters - Phase 1
Beirut, Lebanon
The Beirut National Museum hosts a rich collection of antiquities dating from prehistoric times to the Ottoman period. The 4 August 2020 explosion destroyed the windows and security system, leaving the museum unprotected from theft and elements. The explosion also damaged the offices of the Directorate General of Antiquities, located in the same building. Emergency stabilization work included replacing damaged infrastructure, installing a new security system, and assessing the damage to the collection storage spaces.
